PhD Fellowship: Polaritonic crystals for radiative cooling and other powerless thermal management technologies
Find the PhD of your dreams and join the ICN2 through the INPhINIT Programme. LEARN MORE...
In this PhD project, we will tackle the issue of designing a solution for thermal management by radiative cooling, that can be up-scalable and easily integrated onto other energy harvesting technologies, using zero electricity and producing zero green-house gas emissions. The best up-scalable thermo-functional materials will be fabricated and characterized by current standard RC experimental techniques developed at P2N-ICN2. Microscale heat transfer of the novel materials will be tested combining highly sensitive opto and electro-thermal techniques (Two-laser Raman thermometry and 3 omega method).
The candidate will contribute in the design and fabrication of thermo-optical crystals using nanofabrication techniques such as colloidal self-assembly or roll-to-roll micro-imprint. In the thesis work, the student will contribute to the fabrication as well as the thermal and optical characterization of novel thermo-functional crystals.
The candidate will be able to develop and consolidate her/his nanofabrication and instrumentation skills. The candidate will learn about novel thermal characterization techniques and about the fundamentals of heat transfer at the micro and nanoscale.
Main tasks and Responsibilities: The candidate will join a dynamic team working at the leading edge of Phonon engineering. The candidate will contribute both to the design and analysis of novel thermo-functional materials and to their experimental characterization, analysis and interpretation of data, preparing manuscripts, publishing her/his results and presenting oral talks or posters, at national and international meetings.
Required Qualifications and training offered: The candidate must have a master in Physics/ Nanotechnology/Material Science/ Engineering.
Candidates will be trained in a research field that will shape the energy-transformation of our future society. The candidate will strengthen her/his instrumentation and programming skills and will learn novel thermal characterization techniques as well as the fundamentals of heat transfer at the micro/nanoscale. Applicants should be highly motivated and autonomous. The should enjoy problem-solving and have good organizational skills, while interacting/collaborating well with other lab members.
