“The army still exists, and that is victory enough.”
–Field Marshal Mikhail Kutuzov
The Battle of Borodino, fought on 7 September 1812, was one of the largest and bloodiest battles of the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon’s French Grande Armée faced the Russian army under General Mikhail Kutuzov near the village of Borodino, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides. While the French captured the battlefield, they failed to destroy the Russian forces, and the campaign ultimately ended in Napoleon’s retreat. The battle’s drama and significance inspired Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, which commemorates Russia’s resistance and ultimate victory over the invading forces.
Such incredible music! Tchaikovsky never disappoints. Thank you for watching, and don’t forget to like and subscribe for more videos!
