This is a very sureal moment for us in Dawlish. The four cygnets swimming close to their Mum but Mum doesn't even know they are her cygnets.
A few month previous, the Dad swan was killed by a dog and as a result, our waterfowl wardens had to rescue the eggs and put them in an incubator. Both parents take it in turns on the nest so there is a good change they wouldn't have survived if the eggs were left with mum.
Five eggs hatched out of the seven and we have since lost our only male cygnet to a fox.
After so many years of having a reduced population of swans in Dawlish, it's great to see them thriving again.
