While speaking to the Ghanaian community in Lagos, Nigeria, Ablakwa emphasised President John Mahama’s commitment to safeguarding the country's natural resources. He stated that the president has made it clear that mining in river bodies and forest reserves will not be allowed. Ablakwa also revealed that a military operation to tackle illegal mining will be launched soon. He mentioned that several deportations have already taken place, though they haven't been publicised.
