How did the cast approach telling a fresh version of the Selena legend? By deepening and expanding the story across multiple seasons, kicking off with a first run of episodes that digs into the hard work and sacrifice it took to become “Selena,” and introducing us to the loving, tight-knit family that helped her along the way. Ahead of the series’ release on Netflix, Rotten Tomatoes’ Naz Perez sat down with Christian Serratos, who plays Selena, as well as co-stars Noemí Gonzalez, Gabriel Chavarria, Ricardo Chavira, and Seidy López, who played friend Debra in the original movie and takes on the role of Selena’s mother for the series 23 years later. The cast shares their thoughts about Serratos’ unique take on Quintanilla, how they prepped for their roles, and how they recreated memorable and moving musical moments.
