Used to seeing gas prices below $3 a gallon? Not anymore.
Prices at the pump already are rising because of the Iran war, and that impact is expected to reach well beyond oil and its byproducts.
The U.S. military on Saturday launched a joint attack with Israel targeting Iran and several of its leaders. Iran responded, launching missiles at several targets around the Middle East and shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, through which some 20 percent of the world's oil passes.
Although the United States is still the top producer of oil, making 20 million barrels a day, the war has still caused oil prices to jump. A barrel of oil now costs $90, up from $60 at the beginning of 2026.
