Hi Guys… welcome to the lip ripper channel and my VERY first fishing video.
Today’s video was taken this past week out on Lake Keowee in upstate SC. If you’re not familiar with this lake, its very clear, deep lake I would characterize as being an upland reservoir w/ very little structure with a healthy population of spotted bass, threadfin shad and blue back herring.
My experience has been that you really need some pretty decent electronics to have consistent success here on this lake and it is custom made to fish with Fwd Facing Sonar.
Fished w/ Capt'n Coop up here on the North end of Lake Keowee between Kelly Creek all the way up to the back of the dam targeting ‘wolf packs’ of roaming spotted bass.
Air temps were in the upper 60s with a pretty decent breeze and mostly cloudy (hazy...?) skies so pretty much ideal conditions. Water temps ranged from 63 around Kelly Creek all the way down to 56 up North of Hwy 11.
Fished with my normal range of baits for this time of year including a MegaBass Vision 110 Jr +1 JB, 3" Storm Largo swim bait (Albino Shad color) on a 3/16 oz VMC jig head, drop shot with 3.75" Zman StreakZ (smoky shad color) and Ned Rig with Zman Green Pumpkin Goby TRD on a 1/10 oz mushroom jig head.
Hit pretty much every kind of spot imaginable including main lake points, saddles between islands, flats, drop offs/ ledges, secondary points and ANY water when I saw birds.
I had picked up a couple of new spinning reels (and a GoPro) off the internet and was anxious to try them both out. Started on Monday morning hitting main lake points as I worked my North from our house.
Immediately started picking up any fish that was spotted on LiveScope w/ the JB and caught 8 fish pretty quickly. Thought I was getting some excellent footage of chasing down wolf packs on the GoPro but found out when I went in for lunch that I had the camera turned around backwards (duh!).
Fixed that after lunch and went back out from 1:30 - 4:00 PM and picked up another 15 fish for a total of 23 fish for the day w/ some pretty nice fish in the mix.
Got back out there again yesterday morning before the bad weather came in and picked right back up where I left off. I was pre-fishing for next week's KA tournament so tried not to wear out any particular spot and so I tried some areas I had never fished before.
Caught another dozen bass in the morning and went back out after the line of storms came through and got another 7 fish in the boat before calling it quits around 6:15.
Of the 42 fish caught, 36 of those came on the jerk bait and none on the drop shot but didn’t really throw that too much over the two days of fishing.
Lots of schooling going on out there right now... suggest checking out any area you see birds (and especially Loons...). Secondary points was the best producer of my quality fish but found great numbers of legal fish on a shallow flat near a saddle between islands. Caught 3 fish in three casts there and captured that on the GoPro along with several episodes where I ambushed unsuspecting wolf packs of roaming spotted bass.
