Different styles of riding tend to prefer different riding positions. Touring comfort dictates a more upright style. This alleviates back pain but for me the big thing is taking weight off my wrists so they don't go numb droning down highways. Now upright is good but levels of upright depends upon your bike too. I ride with a fly screen and not a large windshield so for touring I don't want to take away all forward lean. Luckily with sportsters there are seemingly an infinite number of handlebars and risers to accommodate anyone's needs. Plus this is something anyone with the ability to think, follow instructions, and judge results can do. Swapping handlebars and risers is beginner DIY friendly.
