This is the G&G L85 in slow motion showing the pneumatic blow back.
When fired, the piston moves forward forcing air through a small hole in the top of the gearbox shell and into a pneumatic ram attached to the ejection port, which pushes the ejection port open. A spring then pushes the ejection port back into place.
Some people worry that the blow back will go wrong, but it's a very simple design.
