The Bagh District is bounded on the north by the Muzaffarabad District, the Hattian Bala District, and the Baramulla District of Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, on the east by the Haveli District, on the south by the Poonch District, and on the west by the Rawalpindi District of Pakistan's Punjab Province. The town is situated on the confluence of two mini streams, Mahlwani and Mahl, which flow all year round. The district of Bagh is subdivided into 3 tehsils :Bagh Tehsil, Dhirkot Tehsil, Hari Ghel Tehsil.

The Total population of District according to the 2017 census is 371,919 of which Bagh Municipality has 51,617. Languages spoken in district are Gojri, Pahari, Hindko, Urdu & Kashmiri show its diversity.
The Bagh or wider Poonch division had lot of Sikh and Hindu Population before the 1947 unrest. Which were forced out of the region by the invaders with some local help which lead to mass migration of this community to Jammu district of Indian Administered Jammu and Kashmir.

The bakeries of Bagh are very famous if you visit do check out. Middle-standard hotels and forest rest-houses are available for visitors and all amenities are available in the Bazaars of Bagh.

Topographically, the entire Bagh District is a mountainous area, generally sloping from north-east to south-west. The area is part of the Lesser Himalayas zone. The main mountain range in the district is the Pir Panjal. Major peaks near Bagh include Kobra, Ganga, Pir Kanthi Peak Etc.
