Creating a Sexy Black & White Photo with One Light

Описание: One of my favorite modifiers is the Magnum reflector. Basically it’s like a zoom reflector but a little bigger and while this type of modifier can be classified as a “hard light” modifier, it throws out just a little softer light.

For this photo, I wanted to create something timeless, elegant but also edgy.

As the title says, this image was lit with just a single light source. Because of the hard light raking across my subject’s body, it made it perfect for that high contrast look especially when turned black and white.

While this shot is pretty simple, there are all these little details that achieve the final result and give the image impact.

-The light being up higher and to the side to accentuate her features
-The way that we placed the jacket on her shoulders to have a leading line
-The way we had the model pose to accentuate her neck

In post production I popped the contrast and clarity and turned it into a black and white conversion. Then I finessed the image a bit more in Photoshop to really drive home some of the details that I wanted to bring attention to.
