Should Canada make a deal with China on Chinese made EVs in exchange for Canola Oil, Meal and Seed tariff relief? If yes, who gains and who loses?
China would buy canola oil along with several other agricultural products from Canada (e.g. pork and aquatic products like lobster, crab, and shrimp), and Canada would buy Chinese made EVs, both sides under tariff relief.
But, Canada's auto sector is already hurting including Canadian made EVs with job cuts and manufactures now moving south of the border due to U.S. tariff related pressure. Yet, so is Canada's agriculture industry hurting due to drought and China related tariffs. Can a happy medium be worked out to appease both the auto and agricultural industry? If so, how?
