A looped instrumental taken from a cut off of Queensbridge rapper Tragedy Khadafi’s third solo album entitled “Against All Odds”, which was released on August 5th, 2001.
The album had material that was recorded in 1998-1999, which was slated for an initial release date in late ‘99, but was ultimately pushed back and further delayed until 2001.
This was actually first released on JR Ewing’s “Self Defense” mixtape, which came out initially in 1999.
This song is a tribute to Killa Black, which was Havoc of Mobb Deep’s fallen brother.
The album reached #9 in the Billboard Top Heatseekers (Northeast) Album Chart.
Tragedy "dissed" his then-former friend Noreaga on the tracks "Crime Nationalist" and "Blood Type", accusing him of stealing his rhyming style and even his hooks. Their beef has been squashed since then.
Percy Lee Chapman (born August 13, 1971), known by his stage name Tragedy Khadafi (formerly Intelligent Hoodlum), is an American rapper and record producer. Chapman hails from the Queensbridge Housing Projects in Queens, New York City, and has helped spawn other hip hop artists such as Mobb Deep, Capone-N-Noreaga, Nas.
He is documented to be the first to use the phrase "illmatic" in 1988 on a record called "The Rebel", from the Marley Marl album In Control, Volume 1, which was an inspiration and influence on fellow New York rapper Nas.
This track is produced by Nashiem Myrick of The Hitmen Production Team (of Bad Boy Records).
