Le 1er Régiment de parachutistes d'infanterie de marine (1er RPIMa), est un régiment des Forces Spéciales, il appartient à la Brigade des Forces Spéciales Terre (BFST) et dépend du Commandement des Opérations Spéciales (COS).
Le 1er RPIMa est basé à Bayonne, dans la citadelle général Bergé, sur la rive nord de l'Adour, au Pays basque.

La 1ère compagnie est spécialisée dans la troisième dimension et les actions nautiques.
La 2ème compagnie est spécialisée dans les milieux extrêmes, le sabotage et le franchissement.
La 3ème compagnie est la compagnie PATSAS (Patrouille SAS).
La 4ème compagnie est spécialisée dans le milieu urbain, la reconnaissance et l’aide à la décision.

Les missions du 1er RPIMa sont, l’action spéciale, la libération d’otages, le contre-terrorisme terrestre, la neutralisation et la capture de cibles de haute valeur et le sabotage.
Le 1er RPIMa contribue également au renseignement à fin d’action et peut être amené à effectuer d’autres types de missions d’environnement comme l'assistance opérationnelle à des unités étrangères et la protection d’autorités militaires ou civiles en opération.

Héritier du Special Air Service britannique (SAS), ce régiment est la seule unité au monde non anglo-saxonne autorisée à arborer le fameux insigne « S.A.S », leur devise est « Qui ose gagne ».
