"Ostal sem sam", also known as "Ich blieb allein" (Slovenian and German for "I stayed alone") is one of Vilko & Slavko Avsenik's most popular instrumental waltzes dating back to 1955. It features a memorable melody and commonly appears in the reportoires of trios, quintets and solo accordionists in the Alpine Folk Music and Oberkrainer genre.
Although it was recorded by the Avsenik ensemble in the key of E major, it is often played in F major by quintets and trios, so I have provided an arrangement in both keys. In the 2020s, Avsenik's grandson, Sašo Avsenik, features this waltz in all of his live concerts with his ensemble.
