Описание: Reimagining what a library can be in the digital age, the new library at the Cricket Club of India, Mumbai transforms a traditional reading room into a contemporary house of knowledge—designed not only for books, but for gathering, learning, and shared experiences.

Conceived during the Covid lockdown, the 420 sq.m library explores how to bring people back to physical learning spaces. Inspired by the idea of reading under a tree, existing columns are reimagined as timber “trees,” with circular shelves and woven canopies filtering natural light. Terrazzo flooring with marble and green glass chips evokes scattered leaves, reinforcing a landscape-like reading experience.

The library houses 55,000+ books, including rare archives, while low-height shelving (max 1.2m) preserves openness and daylight. Enlarged east- and north-facing windows improve natural light and ventilation, reducing dependence on artificial systems. FSC-certified timber—including western hemlock furniture and yellow cedar windows—supports responsible sourcing.

An adjacent underused studio has been adaptively reused as a flexible cultural space for launches, screenings, workshops, and community programmes—helping transform the library into an active social hub, reflected in increased engagement from members and families.
