The civil rights movement in America taught us that unity and love is stronger than divisive forces and hate. The title and some of the lyrical content of this song take inspiration from other songs of resistance in our countries history; namely, the gospel hymn "I'll overcome Someday" by the Reverend Charles Albert Tindley, who drew upon an earlier melody from the negro Spiritual, "No More Auction Block for Me". Later during the civil rights movement, folk singers and activists like Pete Seeger and Joan Baez helped popularize it with youth movements that sang it together at rallies, marches, and even in jail providing unity, courage and hope.

Similarly, the subject matter in this song tackles the urgent need to come together more than ever, as forces darker than we can fathom, compete to steal our attention from what matters the most. The hour is upon us, evil surrounds and clouds our sight. But light and truth are there as well and getting stronger. So we remain stoic, strong, united. Nothing can penetrate our bonds. We are the chosen few and our power grows by the hour.
