Vietnamese New Year TET in Ho Chi Minh DISTRICT 8

Описание: This year, I had the incredible opportunity to experience Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, for the first time. Just like Christmas and New Year's Eve in the Western world, Tet is a time of celebration, food, drinks, and family. It's a time when people travel from all over the country to be with their loved ones and celebrate the start of a new year.

As I joined a Vietnamese family in Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate Tet, I was amazed by the festive atmosphere and the sense of community. The streets were decorated with colorful flowers, red banners, and lanterns, and the sound of firecrackers could be heard everywhere.

One of the most important traditions during Tet is the preparation of traditional foods and drinks. The family I was with spent hours cooking and preparing various dishes, including banh chung (sticky rice cake), mut (candied fruits), and thit kho (caramelized pork belly). It was incredible to see how each dish was carefully crafted and presented with care.

Another tradition during Tet is the giving of li xi (lucky money) to children and unmarried adults. This is usually in the form of small red envelopes filled with money, and it symbolizes good luck and prosperity for the year ahead.

As the night progressed, the family gathered around to watch the fireworks display that lit up the sky. It was a beautiful and unforgettable sight, and I felt honored to be a part of the celebration.

Overall, my experience celebrating Tet with a Vietnamese family in Ho Chi Minh City was an incredible experience. It was a time of joy, community, and traditions that were all new to me. I left with a newfound appreciation for the richness and depth of Vietnamese culture and traditions.
