Pianist, singer, and songwriter Matthew Ball, known as “The Boogie Woogie Kid,” performs upbeat New Orleans and Swing Era favorites from The American Songbook in Tateuchi Hall.
From symphony and chamber appearances to Jazz and Blues festivals, Ball has garnered international recognition — with five million YouTube views — as a practitioner and authority on these treasured American art forms. In 2020, he became a CAFE grant award winner in recognition for his “family friendly” music contributions to the community.
Ball trained classically at Oakland University with classical pianist Flavio Varani, a graduate of the Paris Conservatory and the Manhattan School of Music, who traced his own pedigree of study back to Chopin himself.
