EPERU'S FAMILY: PRAY FOR US BCOZ POA'S AGENTS WANT TO STEAL SARAH'S BODY FROM US
By Mulengera Reporters
Speaking at Katonga during Sarah Eperu's vigil and eulogy-making session this Thursday afternoon, Dr. Kizza Besigye demanded to know why the so-called FDC leaders at Najjanankumbi, who ignored and refused to help the deceased for all the years she has been battling ill health, would all of a sudden try to steal her body from the Mulago mortuary to exhibit how much they loved her. This was being attempted in order to score political points against Katonga to which Sarah Eperu proudly subscribed.
Besigye was responding to Sarah Eperu's brother, Ben Eperu, who tearfully narrated how someone from Najjanankumbi was facilitated to sneak into the Mulago mortuary and stole his sister's body on Sunday and hid it somewhere in Mengo from where they intended to sneak it to Najjanankumbi.
Besigye said people at Najjanankumbi late last year mistreated Sarah Eperu and publicly humiliated her when they blocked and prevented her from entering FDC party headquarters for the National Council meeting.
He wondered why the same people who mistreated and tortured Eperu that day, before going on to finance the torture and arrest of her driver, would all of a sudden be keen at taking charge of her body and all activities preceeding her burial.
Besigye said Eperu was here for years, living life of deprivation and whoever loved her had the abundant opportunity to interact with her and extend all manner of help.
Ben Eperu, the deceased's elder sister and head of family currently, as he choked on anger, demanded to know why the Najjanankumbi Secretary General Mr. Nandala Mafabi was so much interested in having possession of his sister's body yet she had clearly stated her preference was Katonga and not Najjanankumbi.
Ben Eperu, who had to clash with some of his sisters through whom strange money had come in, in order to enforce Sarah Eperu's dying wish to have Dr. KB play a key role in her send off, claimed that Nandala Mafabi had spent much of Thursday morning making phone calls threatening officials of A-Plus Funeral Services not to take the body to Katonga.
It's true Nandala Mafabi, using FDC party money though Eperu's sister Suzan, had on Saturday controversially paid the money for A-Plus which only came into the picture after Najjanankumbi dangled money and confused some family members to disregard the millions Dr. Besigye had already paid to Rhino Funeral Services to cater for everything concerning Sarah Eperu's burial arrangements. Ben Eperu said much as they appreciated Najjanankumbi's financial contribution, they weren't prepared to allow Nandala Mafabi to make decisions for the family on how their sister gets sent-off.
Besigye told the Thursday vigil (in presence of many senior leaders) that the Eperu siblings, led by Ben, deserved commendation for standing firm in fulfillment of their departed sister's well-stated wish to be send-off as a Katonga person as opposed to Najjanankumbi.
A tearful Ben Eperu asked Ugandans to pray for him and the rest of the family because Najjanankumbi hadn't given up on attempts to steal the body from them between Katonga and Ngora where Sarah will be buried on Saturday. Ben Eperu tearfully narrated how he arrived at Mulago mortuary on Sunday with the deceased's children (as the next of kin) only to be told that someone else, sent by Najjanankumbi, had sneaked in and carried away the body. "Pray for us fellow mourners because we don't know if our sister's body isn't going to be grabbed from us after here," Ben Eperu said.
Other speakers at the Katonga vigil included the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago who praised Eperu for being consistent and a fearless fighter. The FDC founding Secretary General Alice Alaso (who was coming to her mentor Dr. KB's office for the first time in many years and whose arrival created excitement) was equally full of praises for Sarah Eperu who she said was fearless and always told the truth regardless of who it pained.
Semujju Nganda spoke about the role Eperu played in marketing her to people who matter in Kireka and much of Kira or Kyadondo East in 2011 when he first stood and became MP. He said even though they later on got some disagreements, the fact remains Eperu was a good person who always worked with dedication and kept her word.
Several speakers commended Dr. Kizza Besigye for mentoring Sarag Eperu into the incorruptible indomitable fighter she ended up becoming and for standing with her thorougout her very hard years of sickness and very expensive medication. She required Shs750,000 per week and Shs3m per month to access dialysis services after her kidneys failed to function properly. Besigye said Sarah Eperu's death was avoidable if she lived in a country which had a better functioning public health care system.
