“The World on the Turtle’s Back” is an Iroquois creation story filled
with conflict and compelling characters. Iroquois are a group of Native American tribes who spoke Iroquoian languages and lived in the northeastern United States and southern Canada. The Iroquois passed down this story from one generation. In the 1800s, David Cusick, an Iroquois author, recorded one version of the story in print.
