Crackdown is a series of action-adventure video games created by David Jones and published by Xbox Game Studios. The series takes place in a futuristic dystopian city controlled and enforced by a secret organization called the Agency. The games center on the Agency's super soldiers, known as 'Agents', as they fight threats ranging from various criminal syndicates, a terrorist group known as 'Cell', and zombie-like monsters called 'Freaks'. Crackdown is the first game of the series, followed by Crackdown 2 in 2010 and Crackdown 3 for Windows and Xbox One in 2019.

Set in the fictional Pacific City, the player controls a biologically enhanced Agent, tasked with defeating three crime lords and their organized crime syndicates. The Agent's abilities improve by defeating both crime lords (Los Muertos, The Volk and the Shai-gen Corporation) and their top subordinates, as well as by completing optional activities, such as street races and scavenger hunts. The gameplay is nonlinear: instead of following a rigid mission sequence, players are free to select the approach to completing their missions and activities.

Players can level up four skills - Driving, Firearms, Explosives and Strength by simply defeating gang members and enforcers. Agility skill is only levelled up by collecting any of 500 Agility Orbs scattered throughout Pacific City. There are also 300 Hidden Orbs that increase all skills, as well as Street Races and Rooftop Races. Weapons and vehicles can be taken from gang members and returned to various Agency Supply Points to be used by players. The game has a number of achievements which track both 100% completion of the game, and other activities such as unusal kills, and feats such as jumping from the Agency tower and landing in the water below. The game has a "Free-For-All" DLC pack including Keys to the City mode, Street Racing, and new skins. Additionally, the "Gettin' Busy" pack introduces new missions, unlockables, vehicles and weapons.
