The Diamond Jubilee Trust Fund has today given out a total of over £60,000 to local charities to invest in projects designed to make a real and lasting impact on the lives of Gibraltarians, of all generations.
As Patron of the fund, the Governor gave out cheques on Wednesday morning to representatives of these sixteen charities during a ceremony at the Convent. Sir James Dutton praised Gibraltarians' generosity as well as the hard work carried out by the charities.
For his part, the Trust's Patron, the Chief Minister Fabian Picardo said it was important that there was a strong charitable element to the celebrations around the Queen's diamond jubilee year.
Among the charities benefiting, were the Society for the Visually Impaired, Wobbles, Friends of Mount Alvernia, and the Alzheimer and Dementia Support Group (see full list below).
The main donor to the fund was the local branch of the Swiss private bank Lombard Odier, who contributed an impressive £25,000.
In this report, GBC's Jonathan Scott speaks to Sir James Dutton, Fabian Picardo and representatives of the local charities receiving funds.
