We'll start with a refresher on L2 switching and L3 routing, then review the most common EVPN route types (1-5) and how they mimic the network concepts you already understand.

If you come to me and say you need to deploy EVPN-VXLAN in your campus, I won't lie - my first instinct is going to be to talk you out of it. This is an exercise in separating outcomes from technologies. Don't get me wrong - I love campus fabric. But before we forklift your network, let's make sure you're implementing what you need, not what someone wants to sell you.

And trust me, folks want to sell you campus fabric. The switches are more expensive and there's always a control-point that comes with a subscription license the analysts love. Start layering on security integrations and an account team has a healthy bill of materials, particularly if it's an ecosystem play.

So where do we start? How about small?

Before we get into a large campus fabric, let's focus on a pair of switches. Maybe it's in your campus? Your DC? Either way, it's running MC-LAG and you can probably guess how I feel about MC-LAG based on the title.
