Giant White Bird of Paradise Pruning and Propagating an Offshoot to Grow Another Strelitzia Nicolai

Описание: The Giant Bird of Paradise also known as the White Bird of Paradise is a large beautiful tropical plant that grows huge banana type leaves. My Giant Bird of Paradise suffered a little bit of frost damage and I need to prune the older brown leaves to keep it looking beautiful. I also propagate an offshoot to grow another plant.

The plant's scientific name is Strelitzia Nicolai. It is not the Orange Bird of Paradise. This plant grows a white and dark purple flower, not an orange flower. The plant was easy to prune using a pruning saw. It only takes a few minutes to cut off the damaged leaves.

Propagating an offshoot on the Giant Bird of Paradise was a different story. Cutting through the rhizome was tough with the pruning saw. I had to go back and forth using my shovel and pruning saw to finally separate the offshoot from the mother plant. I divided the offshoot with a bit of the rhizome and potted it up to keep in my greenhouse.

After two months in the greenhouse, it still hadn't grown any roots. It is spring now, so I decided to plant it in my tropical garden. I expect it to grow since part of the rhizome is still attached to the plant. I hope it grows in my tropical garden this summer.
