LETS TALK about Viking Age HERRINGBONE!

Описание: Oh, this stitch, so beloved by reenactors, but is it actually evidenced in the viking age? Well ……

There is herringbone, but not as we know it, or more accurately, not as we often use it. We are talking herringbone stitch here, not herringbone weave! Welcome to my brain folks, we are going down herringbone stitch rabbit hole!

Herringbone stitching is just one of those things that niggles at my brain. As always, please remember I am not a primary source, I am a viking age textile enthusiast on a learning journey sharing my thoughts and discoveries so far, gathering lots of snippets of information from amazing researchers and putting them together the best way I can.

If nothing else, I hope this video will show you some cool finds to add to your knowledge base, and in the references section below you will find a variety of sources to dig around in and jump off from with your own research! Phew! Who knew there would be so much digging and jumping and diving involved in historical sewing….well, maybe the Archeologists did!
