Calcutta HC Orders Bengal To Hand Over Border Land To BSF By March 31 | News9

Описание: The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal government to hand over already acquired land in nine border districts to the Border Security Force by March 31 for barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The court noted that West Bengal accounts for over half of India’s total border with Bangladesh, yet large stretches remain unfenced despite Cabinet approvals since 2016. Emphasising that national security cannot be delayed due to administrative or electoral reasons, the bench rejected the state’s justification linked to electoral roll revision and poll preparations. The Union government told the court that once compensation is paid and approvals granted, the state is constitutionally bound to transfer possession to the BSF. The matter will be heard again on April 2, 2026.
