I recently dropped my phone and cracked the screen. Luckily, I was able to take advantage of the cell phone protection offered by the American Express Platinum Card, and I wanted to share my experience with going through this process in case it would be helpful for you.

With cell phone protection, you can be reimbursed for your repair or replacement costs following damage or theft up to $800 per claim with a limit of 2 approved claims per 12-month period. For this coverage to be effective, your cell phone line should be listed on a wireless bill, and the prior month’s wireless bill should have been paid for by your American Express Platinum card. A $50 deductible will apply to each approved claim.

The steps to get reimbursed for your cell phone repair are:
1. File A Claim
2. Take a picture of the damage
3. Get the phone repaired
4. Submit the required paperwork
5. Wait 2-4 weeks for the insurance company to process the claim.

Overall, this was a pretty seamless experience for me, and I recommend using your American Express Platinum Card to pay your wireless phone bill to be eligible for the cell phone protection benefit.
