Yoichi Hatta: The Manhunt For One Of Japan's Most Wanted Fugitives (Documentary)

Описание: On the 29th of June 2022, two college students return to Beppu city after driving around on their motorcycle and scooter. The two stop at a local shopping center at which one of the students has a strange encounter with a man in his 20s, who out of nowhere starts falsely accusing one of the students. Both students quickly leave and discuss the strange confrontation while waiting for a traffic light a few minutes from the scene. Suddenly, an accelerating vehicle is heard behind the two students, and before they can properly react, the car crashes into the motorcycle and scooter. While the two young men fight for their lives, the driver of the car runs off into the darkness of the night. During his escape he is captured on multiple CCTV cameras, after which he disappears all together in Beppu’s harbor area. A manhunt for the man, who is later identified as 25-year-old Yoichi Hatta, is promptly established by investigators who more than 2 years later still grasp at straws for his whereabouts. Why did Hatta crash his vehicle into the two students after a seemingly irrelevant argument? Can the incident be classified as murder? What are potential theories as to Hatta’s whereabouts? And how are the bereaved family members and friends dealing with the passing of their loved one?
