Описание: The Thresher Shark Project Description and Insights:

On this project we teamed up with the a team from Conservation International, The Thresher Shark Project, The Indonesian Manta Project, and The Samata Luxury Liveaboard. Our goal was cruising the Alor sea in search of the shark hunters of the area.
The Thresher Shark Project, an N.G.O. from Alor, established a connection with local shark fishermen to discuss a catch and release program for the sharks after so we could place satellite tags on them. The satellite tags allow a better understanding of the movements of the shark to see how far they travel and if they are territorial to the waters of Alor.
Important findings and a better understanding of these beautiful animals. Success may lead to further projects that can help in a variety of ways. Not only just preserving the sharks but in establishing an alternative livelihood for the fishermen to provide for their families.

The Alor Sea is home to a variety of sharks including scalloped hammerheads, oceanic black tips, and short fin makos. Thanks to this project, we could see the potential for a new marine preserve protecting sharks.

We would like to mention that it's a true honour to work with such an incredible team. Placing satellite tags on a shark is not an easy process! It needs to be done in quickly and in a controlled manner to ensure the wellbeing of the shark. The team managed to place 3 tags on Thresher sharks during this expedition with a 100% survival rate of the animals.
