🫁 What if the lungs were already doing the work?
In this video, Martin Mayse, M.D., Founder of Pleural Dynamics, explains the clinical insight that led to the development of the ACES® device.
After seeing the challenges associated with pleurodesis and pleural catheters for chronic pleural effusions, Dr. Mayse asked a different question: Instead of draining fluid externally, could we move it internally, and use the natural motion of breathing to power the process?
The ACES device is a fully implantable automatic continuous shunt system designed to move fluid from the chest to the abdomen, where it can be reabsorbed. Positioned between the ribs, it is designed to harness normal respiratory motion to move fluid 💧drop by drop.
