This is a well-documented problem on the B7 RS4. This problem develops overtime on the B7 RS4 due to the fuelling system being direct injection only. Direct injection means that the fuel gets injected directly into the cylinder, this has many benefits with regards to efficiency, response and power output but also has the drawback of no longer allowing the fuel to serve an additional purpose which is to clean the intake ports.

In cars with indirect fuel injection, the fuel is injected into the intake ports which also passes the valves. Passing through the intake port allows the fuel to not only clean but also help prevent any of the recirculated gasses to deposit on the valves. With a direct injection engine, all of the recirculated gasses are able to cool and deposit more easily in the intake ports and valves.

Over time this can lead to significant deposits, significant enough to cause a restriction within the intake port and valve. This, in turn, reduces the potential output by restricting the flow.

This also explains why conventional "man in a van" decoke/carbon cleaning doesn't work. Conventional cleaning involves putting fluid in the fuel system, this fluid then goes into the combustion chamber. It does not flow past the intake ports, this is why there is rarely a tangible difference from using this method on a direct injection only vehicle. Whereas our method is to meticulously remove the parts required to access the intake ports and valves and clean using an engine safe material.
