LNER Thompson B1 No 1251 Oliver Bury

Описание: The Great Central Railway hosted a wonderful Autumn Steam Gala this October and my first visiting the railway. One of the special guest locomotive LNER Thompson B1 no 1264 which my favourite locomotive on the gala and appears as no 1251 Oliver Bury which was selected for the 1948 locomotive exchange trails. I wanted to make a video of the engine when it was at the gala and I wanted learn more the about original locomotive and who was named after of the original locomotive. The Original locomotive was built in 04/11/1947 by the North British Locomotive Company in Glasgow, Number 1251 by LNER, Works/Lots Number 26152 and a mouth the engine was named after Oliver Bury in December 1947. The engine was withdrawn 19/04/1964 and unfortunately the engine was cut up on 30/06/1964 at Central Wagon Co., Ince, Wigan.

Now who was the gentleman named after of locomotive? The gentlemen name was Oliver Robert Hawke Bury born in 3rd November 1861 in London. He was an english railway engineer, cheif mechanical engineer of the Great Western Railway of Brazil, General manager of the Great Northern Railway in England and Director of London North Eastern Railway. Bury was educated Westminster School. In 1879 he was appointed to William Adams locomotive engineer on the London and South Western Railway. On 1884 Bury joined the Coleford railway and became resident engineer of the Great Western Railway of Brazil. He was appointed Chief Engineer and Manager of GWR of Brazil. Thereafter he joined two more Argentina railway company's. In 1902 he returned to Uk to join the Great Northern Railway as general manager and joined the GNR board in 1912. He was director of the LNER until 1945. He was married to Arnie Eliza and they had a daughter named Sybil Maude Haigh Bury. Oliver Bury died on 21 March 1946 in London.
