▶ Your piston is a component that is subjected to extreme stress. In fact, it's one of the most stressed parts in your engine. However, one of the biggest stress factors for the piston remains the extreme heat, which is why piston crown cooling plays an important role in tuning. Of course, this is especially true for pistons in tuned high-performance engines, racing engines and the like, because the piston moves through the cylinder at crazy speeds and is also constantly exposed to the combustion explosions that send it shooting back down. It has to withstand the extreme heat, pressure and speed inside the engine, plus external conditions such as temperature, fuel, engine oil and varying load.
