Last June 1-4, 2021, CARE’s Learning Tour hosted a four-day virtual “trip” featuring a different country every day in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region focused on development and humanitarian response.
The experience entailed a small delegation of Congressional staffers joining hour-long virtual sessions every day over the week, with a different country program and regional issue highlighted each day, to gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of forced displacement/migration that uproot people from their homes and compromise safety, well-being, and sustainable development.
The trip prioritized hearing directly from community members and refugees impacted by U.S.-supported programing, highlighting projects funded by both U.S. foreign assistance as well as U.S. private sector investments, and featured livestream tours directly from projects in the field and live discussion with program participants.
