As part of the London Underground 150th Anniversary events steam returned to the Metropolitan Line over the May Bank Holiday in the form of shuttle trains between Harrow-On-The-Hill and Amersham. The shuttle would be steam hauled from Harrow-On-The-Hill to Amersham then towed back to H.O.T.H by diesel.
Locos running during the event were:
GWR 4575 Class 2-6-2T no.5521 (Repainted into a gorgeous London Transport livery and running as L.150, it's unauthentic....but I don't care!)
BR(W) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT no.9466
Metropolitan Railway 0-4-4T no.1 (Failed on the Sunday due to a problem with her big end)
BR Class 20s nos.20142, 20229 and 20189.
Metropolitan Railway no.12 'Sarah Siddons'
As I was busy the first two days I visited on the Monday with James (NwsNoaaChaser) and also meet up with Dan (SatNavDan) for a short while during the day. Although the day started out well things were getting progressively worse, getting bowled twice, people in the way, engines randomly stopping, the ghastly stock and having to deal with loud mouthed Watford fans on their way to Wembley. I also brought both tripods and monopod because I knew LT are a bit iffy with people using tripods on stations, needless to say I could have left my tripod at home!
Shots included are:
9466 seen passing North Harrow with 20142 and 20229 on their way to Amersham, clagging out the place in the process.
5521 seen picking up speed approaching Northwood Hills on the fast, then coming to a sudden stop (AWS or TPWS maybe?) just behind the wall. This is where the monopod came in handy though as I was able to extend it right over the wall to get the train restarting.
A few scenes at Amersham, including part of the loco change between 5521 and 9466.
9466 seen speeding through Chorleywood, minus smokebox number plate as the took it off due to it being rather loose.
5521 opens right up through Rickmansworth, blasting her two tone whistles to boot. Probably my favourite shot of the day, certainly needed it after the day we had!
It might not have been as successful as we'd hoped, but it was still a good day out with friends nonetheless, plus it was my first time filming in the London area and it was lovely to see a Prairie on the mainline at last. I'd also like to thank James for coming up with the plan for the day.....although we didn't follow most of it :P
Filmed on a Panasonic HDC-HS900 with a Panasonic VW-VM2SE microphone.
Enjoy.
