Heart to Heart: Archbishop Borys Gudziak on Notre Dame Commencement Address

Описание: Ukrainian Archbishop Borys Gudziak, Archeparch of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, President of Ukrainian Catholic University delivered Notre Dame’s 2022 commencement address and recipiented of an honorary degree.

“We have previously honoured Archbishop Gudziak for his work as leader of the Ukrainian Catholic University as a centre for cultural thought, for his Christian witness and for the formation of a Ukrainian society based on human dignity,” Father Jenkins said. “We now further recognize him as he speaks forcefully and eloquently in support of the Ukrainian people and in opposition to the Russian invasion of his ancestral homeland.

“Notre Dame has offered a singular response to the Russian invasion and devastation of Ukraine. My presence reflects your heartfelt solidarity. It is a sign of your capacity to love generously, to embrace, serve, and save the suffering, to bless the cursed and lift up the downtrodden and trampled. A friendship launched by the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and Jim McAdams 18 years ago is being continued by the present director of the Nanovic Institute Clemens Sedmak and his wonderful team. On Friday, Father Jenkins announced a comprehensive program supporting UCU’s students and scholars with opportunities for study and research internships to help UCU prepare for its post-war mission in Ukraine”, said Archbishop Borys.

This year the University of Notre Dame conferred 3,344 degrees during Commencement weekend activities, including the 177th University Commencement Ceremony in Notre Dame Stadium on Sunday, during which 2,066 degrees will be conferred on undergraduate students.
