Earth Day 2010 in the City of Ridgeland Mississippi

Описание: The City of Ridgeland, Mississippi's Elementary School children participated in Earth Day 2010 with several educational activities and a community cleanup. Earth Day 2010 started with the Mayor of Ridgeland, Gene F. McGee, speaking to the Kindergarten through 2nd graders at Ann E. Smith Elementary School about the importance of reducing waste, reusing and recycling. The 2nd graders presented an Earth Day Play complete with original songs written by Music Teacher, Carol Stanley, and A Christmas Carol theme, with Ebenezer Litterbug and Ghosts of Earth Day Past, Present and Future. Students then went outside on and collected litter for recycling. Each student took a trash bag home for litter collection in their neighborhood and in public places near their home as part of the Great American Cleanup. The afternoon involved the students at Highland Elementary School, grades 3 - 5, who gathered to hear the Mayor speak about Earth Day and the importance of protecting our environment. Two programs were offered by the 4th and 5th graders. Then, 3rd graders collected litter in their trash bags for the Great American Cleanup. Each student was given a trash bag to take home and collect litter from streets in their neighborhood or from nearby public places.
