2026 Medi-Cal Changes: The Asset Test is Back

Описание: California did away with the Medi-Cal asset limit in 2024 and 2025 - but the California Medi-Cal ASSET TEST IS BACK as of 1/1/26. If you need to become eligible for Medi-Cal long-term care or need to renew your application you will need to pass the asset test! A non-applicant spouse will have to pass the so-called CSRA, too. This video highlights the return of the Medi-Cal asset limit in California, explains that a non-applicant spouse must pass an asset limit as well (the Community Spouse Resource Allowance), reminds viewers as to the consequent penalty period that may result if penalizing transfers are made within the Medi-Cal look-back period, and notes that, in some circumstances, a Medi-Cal Asset Protection Trust may be one potential solution. As always, everyone should make sure that their assets do not pass through California probate, as Medi-Cal can seek REIMBURSEMENT for benefits paid ONLY THROUGH probate.
