A massive landslide triggered by heavy rains struck a private bus in the Balughat area of Jhandutta subdivision, Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday evening around 6:30 pm. The bus, carrying approximately 30 to 35 passengers traveling from Marattan to Ghumarwin, was crushed under boulders and debris from the landslide. So far, 15 to 18 people have been confirmed dead, and three passengers have been rescued and hospitalized. Rescue operations are ongoing with heavy machinery deployed to clear the debris. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief, with ex-gratia relief announced for the victims' families. The accident site was not previously considered landslide-prone, but intense rainfall loosened the hill strata causing the collapse. The area has experienced intermittent rains since Monday.
