Rougham Hall, near Bury St Edmunds is a Grade II Listed Building, hidden deep in the Suffolk countryside. There was an earlier Rougham Hall on this site, built in 1688.
In the early 1820, the owners decided to build a new Rougham Hall, and it was built close to the older house, which burnt down after the new one was established!
During WW2, Rougham Hall was used by the USAF as a base of Operations, Rougham Airfield being close by. It was on one fateful night during September 1940 that a stray bomb hit the foundations in the courtyard - this caused the surrounding walls to crumble and fall over the following years. The clock tower, caught in the shockwave still bears the time of the explosion - 0105am.
The house was never repaired, and is now overgrown.
