Solo Hiking the Hollyford Track [The Last Day] Part 3

Описание: Part 3 of 3 solo-hiking one of New Zealand's less frequented 'Great Walks' in winter.

Today was the easiest day of the trek, with only 19kms (11.8 miles) of well-groomed track to cover. For many hikers, this would be their first day of hiking, though some choose to break it into two days with a stay at Hidden Falls Hut.

Overall, my trek through the Hollyford Track was a bit unique as I had managed to hitch a discounted helicopter ride to Martin's Bay with Milford Helicopters (since they were doing an air delivery in the region). This meant I could arrive back at my car, which I had left at the trailhead on the first day. Doing the track this way was also simpler in winter, since the trailhead is two hours from the nearest town, and track transport companies don't always operate this time of year.

This was a special trip, and as I've had some weeks to reflect between filming and editing (and writing this description), it's been interesting to see how often my mind has returned to the trail; not something that always happens with these hikes. I reckon this won't be the last time I explore the Hollyford Valley, and I look forward to the next adventure.
