June, 2013. Calgary experienced its largest floods since 1932, and largest natural disaster in Canadian history to date. As the waters rose, The City issued a flood warning, activated the Municipal Emergency Plan, and declared a State of Local Emergency.
Over 80,000 people were evacuated from 26 communities, 16 LRT stations and more than 20 bridges were closed and over 30,000 locations were left without electricity.
10 years later, Calgary has become 55 per cent more flood resilient. By 2025, that will be 70 per cent.
Watch how Calgary survived the floods, and rebuilt our communities to be safer, stronger and more flood resilient for the future.
