In Kakku Ki Kitchen, today we are sharing the authentic Rajasthani Roṭh (रोथ) recipe – also known as Khoba Roti / Roat, a traditional Indian flatbread made using mota aata (wheat flour) and lots of desi ghee.
Rajasthani Roṭh is a special festive roti prepared on occasions like Roth Teej and Anant Chaturdashi. This roti is slow-cooked on a tawa or chulha, giving it a rich, crispy yet soft texture and a unique desi flavour. The dough is prepared with ghee and water, and more ghee is added while cooking, making it extremely delicious and filling.
The taste of Rajasthani Roṭh (रोथ) is somewhat similar to baati, but the main difference is that roṭh is cooked on a tawa instead of being baked. For the best authentic taste, try making it on a mitti ka tawa.
Traditionally, on Roth Teej (Bhadrapada Shukla Tritiya), Jains consume only one grain-based food—roṭh—once a day. The festival teaches the importance of simplicity and detachment. However, you can prepare this roti anytime because it is easy, quick, and very tasty.

📝 INGREDIENTS FOR RAJASTHANI ROṬH (रोथ)
• 2 cups mota aata (wheat flour)
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp ajwain
• 5 tbsp desi ghee
• Water as required
👩🍳 PROCEDURE TO MAKE PERFECT ROṬH
• In a bowl, mix wheat flour, salt, ajwain and desi ghee
• Add water little by little to make a soft dough
• Rest the dough for 10 minutes
• Divide into portions and design the roṭh as shown in the video so it absorbs ghee well
• Cook on low flame on a tawa until evenly cooked
