Описание: In a major setback for the Indian National Congress in Assam, former state president Bhupen Kumar Borah has tendered his resignation, reportedly citing dissatisfaction over internal functioning and ticket distribution disputes ahead of the Assembly polls.

Sources say tensions escalated after disagreements with senior leader Gaurav Gogoi. This morning, Gogoi and other senior Assam Congress leaders met Borah at his residence — a move later confirmed by Borah himself — in an attempt to persuade him to reconsider.

Borah had been tasked with finalising alliances with Raijor Dal and Asom Jatiya Parishad, but the reported involvement of Rakibul Hussain allegedly deepened internal rifts. His resignation letter has reportedly been sent to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Reacting to the development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed the Congress has “lost its last Hindu leader” and said his party is ready to welcome Borah.

With Assembly elections just months away, the crisis raises serious questions about unity within the Assam Congress.
