[Verse]
Svo reis draumr
Í skugga Niflheimar
Engin sól né
Engin skjöldr né svar
[Verse 2]
Sverð úr loga
Sló úr hjarta Ymir
Dreifði ösku
Yfir blinda heiminn
En dísir gráta við bergið
[Chorus]
Við sogumst í seiðinn
Sjáum hvorki ljós né lind
Skuggar Ginnungagaps kyrkja
Við heyrum hvorki goð né vind
Við sogumst í seiðinn
Sjáum hvorki ljós né lind
Skuggar Ginnungagaps kyrkja
Við heyrum hvorki goð né vind
[Bridge]
Af dreyra og dómum
Til varga sem enn bíða
En Miðgarðsormur snýst aftur
Og Hel er opin nú
[Chorus]
Við sogumst í seiðinn
Sjáum hvorki ljós né lind
Skuggar Ginnungagaps kyrkja
Við heyrum hvorki goð né vind
[Chorus – Lokataktur, hægt og dimmt]
Við sogumst í seiðinn
Sjáum hvorki ljós né lind
Skuggar Ginnungagaps kyrkja
Við heyrum hvorki goð né vind
Í Myrkri Ginnungagaps (“In the Darkness of Ginnungagap”) draws from Norse cosmogony, set in the silent void before the world’s birth. It describes a realm where light does not exist, gods are unheard, and shadows press down like a living weight. The verses recount the slaying of Ymir and the scattering of ash over a blind and lifeless world. The bridge warns of omens, the stirring of Miðgarðsormr, Hel’s gates wide open and yet no divine protection arrives.
The chorus is the heart of the song: a communal, almost ceremonial cry of being pulled into seiðr (sorcery), with no light or spring to be found. Here, the music briefly turns toward a brighter, almost major tonality, giving the layered voices a solemn but uplifting resonance as if many voices speak as one in a final act of defiance.
The song begins with tribal sound which is deep and resonant, invoking an ancient rite. The female lead carries the verse with an incantation-like delivery, contrasted by the powerful, commanding chorus vocals. After the first chorus, the flute emerges, a haunting and melancholic melody that returns at the end, carrying a faint thread of hope through the darkness.
The closing chorus slows, becoming dim and heavy, as if the void itself is swallowing the sound, yet the flute remains, an ember of creation that has not gone out.
