Text of the Section:

Section 307 :- Whoever does any act with such intention or knowledge and under such circumstances that, if he by that act caused death, he would be guilty of murder, shall be punished with [imprisonment for life], or imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine."
Key Points :-

Nature of the Act :- The act must be done with the intention or knowledge that it could cause death. The crucial element is the intention to kill or the knowledge that the act is likely to cause death.

Punishment :- The punishment for an attempt to murder can be severe. It includes:

Imprisonment for Life :- In some cases, the court may impose life imprisonment.
Imprisonment up to Ten Years: The imprisonment term can extend up to ten years.
Fine: In addition to imprisonment, a fine may also be imposed.
