We are big fans of original big block and original special cars, but don't get worked up at all over a limp 'original'. We think stock cars are boring, and figure that all non special cars are better thought of as candidates for radical alteration, but Bob talks about what to look for if you are going to pay that premium.

Many guys out there were smart enough to swap out an engine, if there were smart enough to also change out the badges and other indicators of the cars engine package, one might buy it thinking they were getting a factory 'special' car.

In about '67 GM started stamping the serial number of the body on the engine so that the two matched, and you could know that the two were put together originally. This Corvette's engine shows the 'T' for Tonawanda, NY, where big blocks are built, then the date code, the horsepower and transmission combination, and then the serial number of the body. If you check the body tag, the numbers match the engine's.

Another relevance for the numbers matching is that you can be fairly confident that the Corvette (or other highly prized car) was never stripped or stollen, being another indicator that it is closer to original.
