Hi everyone, Bruce here at etrailer. Today we're gonna take a look at and install our Curt Class 3 hitch on our 2025 Kia Sportage. Taking a look at our receiver tube here, we do have a two inch by two inch opening with a nice gloss black powder coat. And if we look on the bottom, we do have a ring type for our safety chains that will accept our bigger class (hook clanking) hook and the standard S hook. Now your hitch does not come with a pin and clip. This one takes a 5/8 inch pin that slides in, and your clip goes in here.

And we do have lock cores here at etrailer if you want to keep 'em nice and secure. Now our Curt hitch does have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight with a 525 pound tongue weight. Tongue weight is just the downforce on anything you've got connected here like a trailer so it's just the downforce on the actual receiver hitch itself. Let's go ahead and take a look at a couple of measurements. The first measurement I'm gonna take is from the center of our pinhole here to the edge of our bumper and what we have there, we're looking at about six inches and why we look at that because it's going to determine how long your shank needs to be if you've got any folding accessories that you may be carrying.

Next measurement I want to take is our ground clearance. So I'm going from the bottom of our receiver tube to the ground and we're looking at about 11 and a half inches. Now keep in mind, depending on how much weight you're carrying, that may lower a couple inches, and that's also gonna determine whether you need a dropped shank or a raised shank. But with the ground clearance we have here, I don't think we're gonna have any issues on any inclines or any curbs. As far as the installation goes, it really wasn't too bad.

Took me about 15 minutes, but we are using lifts here. Now if you're wanting to tackle this out on your driveway, the hitch is a little tight getting in, but it can be done. But if you don't want to do it at home, check out our dealer locator at etrailer.com. But if you do want to do it, stick around. I'll show you how.

First thing we need to go ahead and do is remove our underbody panel here. We've got four push pins, 1, 2, 3, and 4. We're gonna take a screwdriver, go ahead and push in on the side, pop that down and then pull it out. I'm gonna skip this one. That one stays so do not remove that one. Go to the next one, remove it, the third one, and we will skip this one and go to the last one and pop it out. Now we've got three plastic nuts that are remaining that we need to go ahead and unscrew and pull this whole panel down. And once you get 'em partially off, you can just go ahead and pull the panel down. It'll kinda ratchet on those screws a little bit. We're gonna remove that and we'll set it aside and we don't need to reuse it. Moving over to the passenger side now, we don't have this underbody panel on the driver's side so we only need to remove it on the passenger side. We've got two push pins, one here and one towards the front. Go ahead and remove those like we did earlier. Pull that down, get it out of the way. And again, we've got two 14 millimeter nuts up on the backside, just the plastic nuts. Again, we're gonna do the same thing as we did before. A little downward pressure. Pulling those off. And again with this one. Once we get this last one removed, once we got that removed, you can go ahead and pull this panel down. But keep it, we will put this back in place. Now that we've got the underbody panels pulled off, if we look up under here, we've got little rubber plugs. If your vehicle has those, go ahead and remove those and we won't put those back. There's one on each side. Just pull those out and go ahead and toss 'em. With an extra set of hands, we can go ahead and throw our hitch in place. (hitch clanking) And we're just gonna run the bolt up. Now we do have a conical washer on here. Conical washers got teeth on one side. Make sure that is facing the hitch. We'll go ahead and get these started and then we'll come back by and we'll put the side ones in. So now that we do have our hitch in place, I am gonna go ahead and snug the bottom bolt down because it is gonna raise our hitch a little bit and allow us to get to the side bolts a lot easier. (ratchet whirring) Now that you do have the bottom one snugged in, we can get o
