The Lion of Shentong and His Heart Sons
On this sacred day commemorating the Parinirvana of Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen, the great Omniscient Master of the Jonang lineage, we remember and celebrate the extraordinary legacy he left for Tibet and the world. Known as The Buddha from Dolpo, Dolpopa is revered not only as a brilliant scholar and meditator, but also as the visionary philosopher who fully articulated and transmitted the profound teaching of Zhentong (Other-Emptiness) and the complete perfection of the Kalachakra Six Vajra Yogas. His realization continues to illuminate the path for countless practitioners seeking the direct experience of their own indwelling Buddha-nature.
Yet Dolpopa’s vast contribution did not arise in isolation. His influence blossomed and endured because of the unwavering devotion and mastery of his heart sons—the disciples who received, embodied, and expanded his teachings for future generations. Today, as we honor Dolpopa, we also extend deep respect and gratitude to these pillars of the Jonang tradition:
